Movement, a web-based business designed by a couple of local mom-friends whose mission is to help working moms connect with each other and promote their businesses. Give them some love! I’m writing about Klout (don’t know what Klout is? Better hop on over there quickly!) and how not to lose it over the busy summer holidays.

Bathroom beauty bootcamp: straight sets between skin care steps

Yesterday was just about the busiest day I’ve had in a long time.

My hubby is away on travel (funny how I appreciate him most when he’s away) and I have three kids who need to be in three different places all at once. Between the back and forth shuffles to schools, the challenge centre, after school Mad Science Camp, an evening Cub meeting and an evening group training session, I had clients to see and meals to prepare. Add to that a crappy night’s sleep thanks to a very large bear, determined to get into my bear proof (ha!) kitchen and yard waste bin or wake the whole neighbourhood up trying.

Believe me when I say there was very little time for any sort of a workout. Yet somehow, I managed to squeeze one in; during morning bedroom clean up and the (many) steps of my skin care routine (one of the advantages of the Arbonne RE9 system!). I’m calling it my bathroom beauty bootcamp!

Pushups to fatigue. Make bed. More pushups. Choose clothes for the day. Last set of pushups. Jump into shower.

Dumbbell lateral raises to fatigue. Wash face. More lateral raises. Spritz on toner. Last set of lateral raises. Apply serum.

Bicep hammer curls to fatigue. Moisturize. More hammer curls. A little primer. Last set of hammer curls. Foundation and mascara.

Arms done. Face done. Clothes on and I’m out the door.

Imagine how much I could accomplish during my weekly 7 minute cellular renewal masque?

As a full time mother and wife and a part time personal trainer and group fitness instructor, I spend a lot of time focusing my energy on other people’s needs. Helping others to identify and reach their goals. Listening and questioning and offering support.

Sometimes so much that taking care of myself and my own needs gets set to the side.

While exercise, yoga, knitting and clean eating help me deal with the minor stresses of life, sometimes I feel like I don’t have enough time to really focus on my innermost challenges. The things that I need to work on to move forward with my life goals and make me better at helping others realize theirs.

A few months ago I heard a life-coach speak at a local ‘mompreneurs’ event. I knew at once that having someone like her in my life would lead to amazing things. Yet, somehow, I never managed to find the time (or the money) to make that phone call. Too busy putting out the day-to-day fires to plan for the longer term.

Enter my friend, Kirri White (of Happy Mums at Home). I met Kirri through a Facebook 30 day meditation challenge (I tried, but simply could not get into a groove with meditating on my own). Kirri is a life coach who focuses on teaching women (especially moms), how to nurture and care for themselves as well as they nurture and care for the others in their lives. As a mom of three young children, she understands ‘mother guilt’ and wants to teach women to put their needs front and centre.
